چکیده
Cast saw injuries are a significant risk of morbidity for our patients and can result in pain, scarring some cases lead to litigation. In order prevent injury better train residents cast removal, we developed the Saw Injury Protection System (CSIPS). This manuscript associated video demonstrate ability this system decrease ancillary medical staff safe removal casts.

Cast-saw burns: evaluation of skin, cast, and blade temperatures generated during cast removal.
BACKGROUND The use of an oscillating saw for cast removal creates a potential for iatrogenic injury and patient discomfort. Burns and abrasions can occur from the heat created by frictional forces and direct blade contact. With use of a cadaver model system, skin temperature measurements were recorded during cast removal with an oscillating saw. METHODS Casts of uniform thickness were applied...

In a language with non-parametric or ad-hoc polymorphism, it is possible to determine the identity of a type variable at run time. With this facility, we can write a function to convert a term from one abstract type to another, if the two hidden types are identical. However, the naive implementation of this function requires that the term be destructed and rebuilt. In this paper, we show how to...
متن کاملAnxiety reaction in children during removal of their plaster cast with a saw.
We have had experience of an 18-month-old boy with a cardiomyopathy who died a few minutes after removal of his cast with a saw, apparently from a malignant cardiac arrhythmia triggered by anxiety. We therefore examined the anxiety reaction to this method of removal of a plaster cast in 20 healthy children; ten were provided with hearing protectors and ten were not. The level of anxiety was ass...

EDITOR'S N O T E : William A. Tosberg, C.P.O., Chairman of the Journal's Editorial Committee, suggests that Dr. Delaney's article will be of interest to orthotists who must apply plaster of Paris casts for the construction of splints and braces. "I admit that the electric saw used for the removal of casts is terrifying to many patients, especially children," Mr. Tosberg writes, "and I have quit...
متن کاملCast saw burns: evaluation of simple techniques for reducing the risk of thermal injury.
BACKGROUND Although a routine practice in all orthopaedic clinics, the use of cast saws is not without risk of thermal and abrasive injury to patients. This study investigates the use of readily available supplies for reducing oscillating saw blade operating temperatures. METHODS An oscillating cast saw blade and an adhesive thermocouple fixed to the blade were uniformly heated and subsequent...
